Under the Broken Halo reviews

3.0 out of 5 stars Broken Halo, February 16, 2012

I stayed up all night reading Broken halo. I found that the book from the beginning was disjointed and hopped around a lot.

With that in mind, anyone who has been through any type of abuse and addictive behaviors knows that disjointedness is a symptom of all the above. I would have liked to have seen a beginning that slid me into what had happened versus taking me right there. Being a woman who has lived through Alcoholism with family, drug addictions with family and abuse by family, it was hard to read right up front.

I give Laura kudos for being so straight forward and upfront with her life, but it was a difficult read for me, eventhough I have had many years of therapy and have worked through the pain, loss and sadness of family addictions and abuse. I think it is important for those of abuse, etc. Know that Therapy is important in the process of healing from the pain and hurt. Addictions become a whole differing story and to break those addictions and addictive behaviors needed to be addressed.

All in all I would beaware when recommending this book to a woman who has been through abuse, I would use this book for someone who has already had enough therapy to deal with the forth rightness of this book. I am proud of Laura for putting herself out there for others and sharing the pain of her life and the happiness that is hopefully still yet to come.

Laura is an amazing woman. There is an amazing strength in being able to face your personal demons and come out stronger in the end. Her writing is personal and real; I admire her willingness to share excerpts from her childhood and teen year journals. Laura is now a strong, beautiful woman with the guts to tell her story. I hope other women who are currently in a dark place or have nightmares themselves, can read her words, find strength and find their own peace.

This review is from: Under the Broken Halo (Paperback)
Behind every woman's smile is a story of survival. Laura's story is more poignant than most, but told in such an easy manner the pages will practically turn themselves. Under the Broken Halo is not just one woman's story of survival, it is every woman story. As you read this book you will find yourself overturning the rocks in your own soul and peering at the dirty, secret things that dwell beneath the surface. But Laura's story is not just a story of abuse, it is a story of overcoming impossible odds and learning to love again. Under the Broken Halo is a story of hope. Laura has found her happiness and gives hope for victims everywhere that happiness can be found when you least expect it.

I had the opportunity to read the free kindle version (the first few pages they allow you to see) of Under the Broken Halo. I have to admit I was really taken with the sample of this book. It was a great read, what little I was able to review. I can't wait to purchase the book and read the entire story. Laura did an outstanding job of telling her story, yet leaving out the fine details. This is a story of one woman's journey, her recollection beginning in a very dysfunctional/abusive family environment, to the transformation and healing from the trauma's she endured, to the beautiful person she is today.
